Hanmaum Seon Center of New York is dedicated to helping all beings learn to rely upon and discover their inherent Buddha-nature. In so doing they can discover this interconnected whole that we call Hanmaum, or one mind. In awakening to this and learning to live in tune with it, each of us can go forward on our own path of spiritual evolution with energy, wisdom, and as a blessing to all around us.
Back in 1972, Seon Master Daehaeng lit a small lamp in Anyang, South Korea, hoping everyone might catch a glimpse of their own bright heart. That light has kept traveling, and in 1989 it quietly landed in New York—our very first overseas branch. Here, amid the city’s swirl of languages, peoples, and stories, we simply keep practicing what she taught: your everyday life is the temple, and your own mind is the Buddha. Come sit, walk, work, laugh—whatever you’re doing already—while learning to trust the warm, steady glow that’s always been yours. Sunims Hye Bong, Won Kong, Hye Ju, Hye Seol Sunim are around most days, ready to share tea and questions.
