Hanmaum Seon Center of Pohang is dedicated to helping all beings learn to rely upon and discover their inherent Buddha-nature. In so doing they can discover this interconnected whole that we call Hanmaum, or one mind. In awakening to this and learning to live in tune with it, each of us can go forward on our own path of spiritual evolution with energy, wisdom, and as a blessing to all around us.
On November 28, 1993, a small group of local practitioners in Pohang was given permission to by Seon Master Daehaeng to found a new
Hanmaum Seon Center. That year, our community found a home in the Sangdo-dong neighborhood and held an opening ceremony with
Seon Master Daehaeng.
By 1998, they had secured a much larger plot of land for a new temple, and in the spring of 2002, the groundbreaking began. A year later,
our abbess and other sunims joined over 1,400 community members to raise the main ridge beam of the new Dharma hall. The building
was officially completed with a dedication ceremony in April 2004.
Today, guided by our abbess Hye Mun Sunim, our community continues to gather for regular Dharma talks and practice, all devoted to the
simple, steady journey of experiencing and strengthening our connection with our true self.
